此外，張掛的對聯，傳統作法還堅須直寫豎貼，自右而左，由上而下，不能顛倒。與對聯緊密相關的橫批，可以說是對聯的題目，也是對聯的中堃。好的橫批在對聯中可以起到畫龍點睛、相互補充的作用。
