One Piece (ン ピ ピ ー ス, Wan Pīsu?) Is a series of Shōnen mangas created by Eiichirō Oda. It has been prepublished since July 19, 1997 in weekly magazine Weekly Shōnen Jump, then grouped in volumes related to Shūeisha since December 24, 1997. In January 2017, 82 volumes and more than 850 chapters are marketed.
A French version has been published since 2000 by Glénat. A reissue closer to the original version was launched on July 3, 2013. 80 volumes were released in October 2016.
To test the popularity of the manga, Production I.G studios created an OAV, which was broadcast in 1998 on Japanese television. The series rights will then be acquired by the company Toei Animation which adapts the manga to anime, this version is broadcast on Sunday since 1999. The series counts more than 770 episodes in December 2016.
The rights to anime are owned in the main French-speaking countries by Kana Home Video and is regularly broadcast on MCM, Game One and J-One.
Many derivative products have also been created, taking advantage of the wave of success that the license brings each year, such as novels, TV movies, figurines and video games.
One Piece is the best selling manga in Japan, each tome is ranked first in its release. The record is held by volume 67 which sold more than 4.05 million copies. In France, the series became leader in 2011 and has sold 6.5 million copies since its release. In 72 volumes, the total circulation of the volumes of One Piece amounted to 300 million copies only in Japan. It is also the best-selling manga in the world exceeding Dragon Ball of Akira Toriyama with, in August 2016, more than 380 million copies.
