Sejak tanggal 27 Desember 1949, di Indonesia berlaku Konstitusi RIS, dan sejak tanggal 17 Agustus 1950 di Indonesia berlaku UUDS 1950. Dekrit Presiden 5 Juli 1959 kembali memberlakukan UUD 1945, dengan dikukuhkan secara aklamasi oleh DPR pada tanggal 22 Juli 1959.
